One word for 2014

Instead of setting a specific list of goals for 2014, like I did last year, I decided that this year it's all about a one word focus. Now. . .  don't get me wrong. There are lots of things I would love to accomplish and chart out and write down and put on my calendar and work towards. But I also know myself and where our family is at right now. We are about to have a newborn. And we have a daughter with some special needs with a pretty busy schedule. And thus, adding a list of goals to accomplish, while good in intention, will most likely leave me beyond stressed. And the last thing I need is to voluntarily stress out my Type A self. Or voluntarily stress out my non Type A husband.

You following me?

So in the spirit of this New Year I decided to just slow down and choose a one theme word so to speak.

Intentional.

To me, being intentional can encompass so many things.

I want to be intentional with my time.

I want to be intentional with/in my relationships.

I want to be intentional with my kids.

I want to be intentional with my health.

I want to be intentional in my marriage.

I want to be intentional in my speech.

I want to be intentional in the way I serve.

I want to be intentional in the way I spend money.

I want to be intentional in my daily seeking of the Lord

I think you get the idea. . .

So as we kick off January, and continue on month after month, I hope to really take time to focus and be aware of the intention behind all of my actions. I don't want to float through 2014 without a care or thought. Will this year be harder than the last? Maybe. Probably. But I still have the power of intent on my side.

I want to live well, and live on purpose.

What about you? I know I am a little late in the game, but do you have any goals or theme words you are focusing on this year?

  1. I love this! I was thinking about this exact thing on my way to work this morning and what word I would choose.

  3. Love it! A great goal to have for this next year. I'm not going to pretend to be as busy as you, but I think this stage of life is really about simplifying.

P.S. Chad and I are going to a (parenting) conference the end of this month called...INTENTIONAL. Blogmates!

  4. This is SO exciting! My pastor wrote a book called My One Word which is this very concept. There is a cool website (http://myoneword.org/) where you can learn more about choosing a word for the year, why to choose one, and use the blog to share your word and read about others' words. My word this year is mirror... I want to become someone who more fully reflects Christ's images to the people I interact with, and I want to become a person filled with His confidence when I look at myself in the mirror.

  5. Brittnie I so love this trend of having an overall goal instead of exact goals that when go unaccomplished make us feel like a failure. Another girl!!! My first two were girls and although they are night and day different they are so close and root for each other in every way. The day I had Lila (my 2nd) I felt so much happiness that Emry would always have someone, a sibling, to go though life with. I am sure you feel that way for Clara, that no matter what she will have a cheerleader, a confident, someone who no matter what will be there for her. Of course they'll have their disagreements but mark my words they will be each others best most cherished and dearest allies.

Also are you on Instagram? It's my preferred way of staying in touch now that I am in school.
